Jason Pender

College Coach

Headshot of Jason Pender

I step into every meeting with a student intending to build a strong enough relationship that they trust me with their needs but to also recognize my belief in them to go beyond what they have imagined for themselves.

Jason Pender, College coach

Jason Pender (he/him/his) is a College Coach in Making Waves Education Foundation. He started in the community college system and eventually received his bachelor’s degree in Communication from Humboldt State University. Jason also has his master’s degree in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago. He was born in San Jose and has lived in northern and southern California, Phoenix, and Chicago.

Jason has worked for 10 years in student housing and student conduct offices. He also taught leadership courses for undergraduate students and hosted workshops for graduate students. During Jason’s time in student affairs, he has led and participated in numerous social justice advocacy projects (trainings, demonstrations, policy changes, etc.). He has also been fortunate enough to volunteer his time to be a mentor and coach. Jason has helped many students address issues found in pursuing higher education and reaching their individual goals. As a College Coach, he hopes to learn from his Wave-Makers as much as he teaches them.

  • I had lightsabers at my wedding.
  • I collect, create and sell action figures.
  • I am starting to 3D print collectibles and cosplay items.

I like to learn about learning and fight with my
3D printers.

Connect with resources earlier! I wasted a lot of time trying to do things on my own.

Graduating.

The coaching role is my dream job. Each day is a new adventure that provides new puzzles to solve with students. I also love that we get to work together over Wave-Maker’s entire college career. It’s great to get students prepared for the next steps in their career or graduate school.
