Ms. Klein joined our board in 1999 and is also president of the Making Waves Academy Board. She is the primary liaison to staff on operational issues and board lead on school design projects. Her commitment to educational equity is evidenced not just by her work for Making Waves, but also by her leadership of the district-wide foundation for San Rafael City Schools. A teacher for gifted 4th and 5th graders since 2003, Alicia began her deep involvement in public education, after a brief career in advertising, when her sons entered school in the mid-1990s. She was a Bay Area Discovery Museum trustee, held a variety of PTO and site leadership positions in San Rafael schools, and for many years worked weekly in elementary classrooms.

Following the passage of major improvement bonds, she chaired facilities renovation committees for multiple sites in that district, where she still participates in budget advisory committees and parent outreach activities. Ms. Klein received degrees in both economics and Italian from Stanford University and upon graduation worked abroad as a translator for a cultural magazine. She loves to cook and read, and with her husband enjoys hiking and traveling.
