College Financial Services Coordinator
Nice to meet you!
About me

My approach

Hi Wave-Makers, I’m excited to be working with you this year. I will be your partner in understanding how you can use your scholarship money within our policies, limits, and guidelines. Aside from your scholarship, I will also be your partner on all things financial aid.

My bio

Leticia Perez (she/her) is a Financial Services Coordinator for Making Waves Education Foundation. In this role, she assists students in managing the financial components of earning a college degree. As the daughter of Mexican-born immigrants, Leticia has had to navigate the education system predominately on her own. She attended UC Davis and earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish and Chicanx Studies in 2019. While at UC Davis, she worked with students in Sacramento — predominately low-income and first-generation — helping them understand their post-secondary options. This work inspired her to continue supporting students, especially underserved students, in various roles. Through her work and lived experiences, Leticia understands the hardships many students face navigating higher education and looks to support them and their families in obtaining a degree with as little debt as possible.

If you could do college over again, what is one piece of advice you would give yourself?

Don’t forget to enjoy this time! It’s a handful of years, and they go by quick. Get your work done, but don’t forget to do things that bring you joy. Hang out with friends, try new things, laugh, and make lots of memories!

What is your favorite college memory?

Studying abroad in Argentina for a quarter was a beautiful experience that brought me some of my closest friends! Another memory is having lunch during the spring quarter on the quad, soaking up the sun with my friends in the middle of a busy day.

What led you to your current role?

I see myself and my community in all of you. Coming from a low-income, first-gen background, I know managing money is hard, financial aid is confusing, and I struggled big with those things in undergrad. I’m grateful and happy to help you all as I know I needed that during my time!
