Briggitte Bolanos Vieyra

College Financial Services Coordinator
Nice to meet you!
About me

My approach

I’m here to support you through your journey but ultimately who would make the final decision and put in the work would be you (the student). I will be there right beside you to help and cheer you on.

My bio

Briggitte Bolanos Vieyra is a College Financial Services Coordinator at Making Waves Education Foundation. Her role consists of helping students navigate through the financial aspects of their college journey to ensure they graduate with none or as little debt as possible. Briggitte attended UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degree, majoring in social welfare. A proud Latinx first-generation college graduate herself, Briggitte understands the many challenges that come with obtaining a higher education degree. Therefore, she is committed to supporting and empowering students throughout their educational journeys. She has over five years of experience serving low-income underserved students through multiple college access programs. What Briggitte finds most meaningful about working with Making Waves Education Foundation is being able to witness students' growth and accomplishments.

If you could do college over again, what is one piece of advice you would give yourself?

I’d make sure to do two things:

  1. Budget! Building healthy money habits is key to both financial and mental stability. Start early and stay consistent — it makes a huge difference.
  2. Have fun networking. Networking can open doors to opportunities that grades and degrees alone might not. Be intentional about it — while parties can be a fun way to meet people, step out of your comfort zone by joining a professional club or pursuing an internship. These experiences will help you grow personally and professionally.

What is your favorite college memory?

Late night talks with my friends about our life goals.

What led you to your current role?

Because I had incredible support during my own college journey, and I don’t know where I’d be without those people. I want to pay it forward and be that support for our Wave-Makers.

Education

  • University of California, Berkeley, BA in social welfare

Fun facts

  • When I’m not working, I like to try cooking recipes. So far, my favorite has been a crab and salmon sushi bake
  • I like horror films but I’m a scaredy cat, which means I will not watch them alone or at night

When I'm not coaching

My favorite thing to do is walk or have a picnic by any body of water: a river, the ocean, a lake. I find being next to water relaxing.
