Internships provide valuable resume-building experience, help your confidence, and help you land a job after college graduation. Here are the eight reasons to get internships during college.

From navigating the first week of college to negotiating a first job offer, conversations between students and coaches cover many topics. A coach becomes a student’s trusted advocate, their cheerleader, the person they turn to for both wins and failures, and a person they trust to help plan their future.
A first-gen college graduate, Estefan Cervantes obtained three corporate internships during his time at Northeastern University. “I’m looking forward to being financially stable and having the ability to explore the world,” he shared reflecting on his higher education journey and next steps after graduating from Northeastern debt-free thanks to the Making Waves scholarship.
“College and post-college can become a jumbled and confusing road. But the structure from Making Waves makes it all possible,” shared Abraham Segura (he/him), a first-gen grad who followed his passions and earned his degree from San Francisco State.

An accomplished business leader, Daniel Shaw has bachelor’s degree in business from Morehouse College and an MBA from UCLA. He has extensive experience in the health and wellness technology space and he’s sharing his tips for career advancement.

89 Bay Area students from low-income backgrounds earned $2.3 million total in college scholarships and are paired with Making Waves college coaches, financial coordinators, and career specialists.

This always-on AI copilot for people from high school through the start of their career has been named a finalist at the ASU + GSV Summit’s Education Innovation Showcase.
The scholarships and coaching from Making Waves made attending UC Berkeley attainable for first-gen college student Ale Paz, who has found community on campus, studied abroad, and completed a global internship. “College has given me so much freedom to explore these opportunities and figure out what’s best for me. It’s been a great journey,” Ale said.

Making Waves partners with Braven to support the career development journeys of first-generation college students, students of color, and students from low-income backgrounds – supporting students in getting a strong first job when they graduate from college.
