Making Waves Academy’s College and Career Week offers incredible volunteer opportunities to make a real impact right here in the Bay Area’s Richmond, California. At our college and career fairs you will be able to:

  • Connect with Making Waves Academy high school students as they explore their futures.
  • Share about opportunities in higher education or about your college or university experience.
  • Offer your career insights and help open doors to different career paths.
  • Give back, build your own network, and support the next generation of leaders.

Monday, October 20: Making Waves staff kick off College and Career week by sharing their own college stories to help students prepare.

Tuesday, October 21: Volunteers from a range of career paths and industries join the Career Fair to talk with students about jobs, skills, and workplace experiences. Volunteers needed - sign up below!

Wednesday, October 22: College and university representatives are invited to participate in the College Fair to provide college and university admissions information and resources. Volunteers needed - sign up below!

Thursday, October 23: This day of College and Career Week is all about Money Matters. Making Waves alumni and financial experts are sharing guidance on paying for college, managing scholars, and getting financially ready for the future.

Friday, October 24: The week concludes with a campus-wide celebration featuring music, giveaways, and college gear.

Professionals from corporations, nonprofits, and community organizations are invited to help students learn about career paths, job skills, and real-world experiences. This interactive event is designed to inspire students by showcasing diverse professions and the journeys behind them.

About Making Waves

Making Waves supports thousands of students from low-income backgrounds through the lifecycle of their education and employment journeys. We partner with students – as early as 5th grade – in imagining the possibilities for their future, finding their purpose, and making intentional decisions toward their goals. Then, we provide the scholarship funding and personalized coaching to help make those dreams a reality.

Impact

At Making Waves, we’re opening doors to economic mobility. At Making Waves Academy, the A-G requirements are built into the curriculum so nearly all high school graduates are eligible for California State University and University of California admissions. From there, our proven college and career success program makes higher education affordable and graduation attainable.
