Making Waves Academy’s Charter Renewal Unanimously Approved

Students cheering in blue caps and gowns

Dear friends of Making Waves,

We are excited to share some incredible news – this fall, the Contra Costa County Board of Education unanimously voted to approve Making Waves Academy’s five-year charter renewal.

The vote was met with both applause and tears of joy from the over 150 supporters who filled the room (with more joining online), proudly wearing Making Waves shirts and sharing the essential role Making Waves plays in the lives of students and families in the Richmond community.

One father shared a powerful story about the impact Making Waves has had on his three children. They each had support from Making Waves from middle school through college and are now pursuing careers in engineering, computer science, and psychology.

The atmosphere was electric. Every voice in the room was one of support and hope. One county board of education trustee even noted how rare it is for a charter renewal to have no public opposition.

Thank YOU for your unwavering support. Here’s to celebrating this significant milestone together and Making Waves’ impact expanding educational opportunity and economic mobility!

Warm regards,
