Providing The Educational Opportunities That Change Lives

Student Enrollment Lottery

As prescribed by California charter school law, Making Waves Academy conducts a lottery for the incoming fifth grade class. The state requires a lottery to determine enrollment whenever requests by students to enroll in a charter school exceed the capacity of the school. Based on our experience, the applicant pool has ranged between 200 and 325 applicants for the 100 places available each year.

To be eligible for Making Waves Academy’s student enrollment lottery, students must currently be in the fourth grade and applications must be submitted to the Academy office before 6 p.m. on the day that lottery applications are due..  Late applications cannot be accepted.

If you are interested in attending Making Waves Academy you may pick-up a lottery application in the Academy Office or call the Academy at (510)-262-151l  to have one mailed. Complete the application and return it to our office before Friday, March 16, 2012 at 6:00 pm.

We will hold the lottery on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 7:00 pm to determine who will be a part of Making Wave Academy’s fifth grade class for fall 2012.

Enrollment priority, in the order below, will be given to:

  • Current fourth grade students who are siblings of students enrolled in the Making Waves Academy and Making Waves Education Program. A sibling is defined as a biological/adoptive sibling, step sibling, or foster child residing within the same household.
  • Fourth grade students who are currently enrolled in Title I schools in the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
  • Current fourth grade students who attend other schools in the West Contra Costa Unified School District.
