"The work that we do creates positive disturbances or positive movement in our students’ lives and in our communities. We seek change in our society; the status quo is not acceptable. We seek to be agents of beneficial change for our children and the communities we serve. Most importantly, we strive to instill in our children the awareness that they are gifted and have a responsibility to share their gifts and thereby make a difference in their lives and the lives of others."
Providing The Educational Opportunities That Change Lives
High-Achieving Students
In many public schools, high-achieving students are often overlooked in efforts to help struggling students achieve proficiency in key subject areas. But at Making Waves Academy, students identified as high achievers through classroom report cards, placement test results, and teacher recommendations have the opportunity to do more advanced work and to excel at their individual rates. Teachers often suggest projects in which students can deepen their critical thinking in tutorial sessions and the classroom. Students are given multiple opportunities that provide intellectual enrichment and enable them to contribute positively to the school community. Students are also encouraged to conduct independent and guided research and participate in math empowerment programs.
