"Making Waves sets the gold standard in best practices for educating young people from low-income backgrounds. It is a model for raising achievement and attainment for less advantaged students that needs to be implemented in hundreds of communities nationwide."
Providing The Educational Opportunities That Change Lives

Field Trips & Cultural Experiences
In adolescence, the brain enters a pivotal phase of development, so offering vibrant experiences to our Wave-Makers makes them better able to problem-solve and think creatively in all areas of their lives. Many of the students have never ventured more than five or 10 miles from their homes. To help Wave-Makers compete with their peers in more affluent communities, we facilitate enrichment opportunities that expose them to the possibilities that exist outside their neighborhoods and that nurture an understanding of the larger world. Throughout the year, a director of co-curricular activities coordinates culturally rich and intellectually stimulating field trips to plays, performances, events, and movies, as well as outdoor excursions that promote environmental awareness and appreciation of natural settings. College trips are provided each year for every Wave-Maker.
