Providing the Educational Opportunities that Change Lives
Community Partnerships and Engagement
As an established leader in providing life-changing educational opportunities to underserved and underrepresented youth, Making Waves Foundation (MWF) is building strong local networks, programs, and partnerships to leverage our knowledge and expand our impact. Our Community Partnerships and Engagement (CPE) Manager implements numerous programs and events to provide academic, college, and career support services to Making Waves Academy (MWA) and College and Alumni Program (CAP) students, as well as other students of need throughout the Bay Area.
Here are some of our CPE programs:
- College Counselor Symposium : This free conference is an opportunity for Bay Area high school counselors and community-based organizations to gather and discuss best practices for working with first-generation college students. Attendees will receive valuable information to understand student challenges, navigate financial aid, and facilitate success in postsecondary education. Our next event is February 22, 2017.
- Career Exploration Day at Making Waves Academy. At this event Making Waves Foundation partners with professionals from a wide range of industries, to present their career exploration stories to the students. Our next event is March 3, 2017.
- Case Study and College Fair hosted by Making Waves Academy. The goal is to support Bay Area students, families, and other educational organizations better understand and navigate the college admission process. During this free event, students evaluate college application Case Studies from the guided perspective of admissions officers, and participate in a traditional College Fair. High school counselors and parents from Bay Area schools and community-based organizations are encouraged to attend to learn from college representatives. Our next Case Study and College Fair is April 22, 2017.
