"The work that we do creates positive disturbances or positive movement in our students’ lives and in our communities. We seek change in our society; the status quo is not acceptable. We seek to be agents of beneficial change for our children and the communities we serve. Most importantly, we strive to instill in our children the awareness that they are gifted and have a responsibility to share their gifts and thereby make a difference in their lives and the lives of others."
Providing The Educational Opportunities That Change Lives
Michael Barco
Mr. Barco is the 9th grade Health and Wellness teacher for Making Waves Academy Upper School. His journey through life began as an elementary and middle school student in Los Angeles. His family moved to Turlock, Calif., to be in a safer community. Turlock is a quiet college town located in the heart of California’s central valley, an area where agriculture is the primary source of business. Mr. Barco attended California State University, Stanislaus, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, concentration in Health and Wellness Promotion. He also attended CSUS to obtain a Multiple Subject teaching credential. Mr. Barco brings a wealth of experience, working with children and adolescents for over eight years as a child care worker, tutor, instructional aide, child care counselor, K-12 substitute teacher, P.E. coach, and education specialist, and is currently fulfilling his dream of becoming a Health/P.E. teacher. His favorite hobbies include spending time with family, friends, exploring new places, exercising, biking, playing racquetball and many other sports. An interesting thing about Mr. B is that he is ambidextrous; writing Health facts on the whiteboard with his left hand and throwing the football to Wave-Makers with his right!
